Greetings Creekers! All you eager shoppers, hold your horses, we will get to it, but there are a few other things I need to tell you about.
First, the xwesam/Roberts Creek Community Association has received an invitation for interested community members and stakeholders to attend an open house to learn about the Forest Landscaping Plan for the Sunshine Coast. This pilot project is a collaboration between First Nations and the Ministry of Forests. The open house will be at Chatelech Secondary School on Dec. 6 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
It’s starting to get cold out there and so the RCAA will be putting a rack outside the library where you can donate good condition outerwear for people who need it to stay warm or you can “Give a Coat, Take a Coat.” Socks gloves and hats are welcome too. If you have other clothing, please donate it to the thrift store or put it in the Diabetes Association bin.
Numerous efforts have been made to fix the RCCA EV charge station and it finally turns out that it needs to be replaced. (Sort of like my washing machine.) Anyway, that should be happening sometime in the New Year and then people can charge up again while they have their Gumboot Hash.
The Legion has music this weekend starting tonight (Friday) with The Burning World, a band of local and Lower Mainland musicians featuring the music of Ross Powell. They will introduce their new album Up in Smoke and then move on to perform as The Song Butchers who will play a vast range of popular and obscure songs that you can dance to. Show starts at 8 p.m.
Tomorrow night, Bridge and Teflo present, “No Nonsense November.” I have no idea what this is about but their poster features a spectacular octopus so it could be interesting. Just go and find out.
One last and important thing. BAKING!! The RCCA needs donations for their bake table at this weekend’s craft fair. Drop off at the Hall in the morning or during craft fair hours.
Okay, here it is:
CREATIVE SHOPPING IN THE CREEK - PART TWO
As with last week the order is being randomly drawn.
CLARE WILKENING CERAMICS
Clare makes thoughtful and dynamic tableware and sculpture reflecting the colours, textures, forms and inhabitants of the Salish Sea. You can see her work at clarewilkening.com and attend her studio sale on Dec. 16 at 1244 Roberts Creek Road.
MELOMANIA
It’s pretty amazing that Roberts Creek has its own music store. If your partner wants to take up the ukulele, guitar or drums, Paul can guide you to make a purchase and gift certificates for lessons are available. There are some nice Kalimbas that are fun for anyone to play and if you want a noisy stocking stuffer for your grandchild how about a slide whistle?
CURRY IN THE CREEK
Rashmi has gift certificates and what could a better gift for a busy person than a delicious curry dinner? Her curries all freeze well too. You can check out her menu at www.curryinthecreek.com and then call Rashmi at 604-828-4086.
BOUTIQUE IN THE CREEK
This store has an eclectic selection of giftware, plants and art and they love to do gift baskets! They along with some other businesses in the Heart of the Creek will be participating in a Holiday Sip & Shop on Dec. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m.
GUMBOOT RESTAURANT
You can find lots of gift ideas here. If you are looking for an unusual condiment, preserve or snack as a hostess gift or stocking stuffer, this is your place. Let’s say you need a nice bottle of wine. You can go to the liquor store and get overwhelmed and confused, or you can come here where you can choose in peace and quiet from a carefully curated selection of B.C. wines, some of which are not even available in the LCB. Then there are the frozen take home dinners. A gift certificate for some of those would be welcome. Oh yeah, and they had some very cute handmade felt kids’ masks when I was there.
BEAR HEART
Well, this is an interesting place if you have never investigated it. First of all, there is the therapy side of things, including foot detox treatments, light therapy and electromagnetic field therapy. Gift certificates are available and Biyaals can guide you. Then there is the jewelry, from unusual one-of-a-kind pieces to lots and lots of blingy earrings. To go with the blingy earrings there are stunning sequined dresses and tops. These came from the movie industry and they can be rented along with appropriate shoes for a night out. That might be the right gift for somebody. Interspersed with all this are some lovely locally made leather bracelets, colourful Indian rag rugs and other eclectic stuff. It’s in the Heart of the Creek where Inside Passage used to be. Phone: 604-885-0133, www.bearheart.ca.
ELFINSTONES
I never fail to be suprised at the number of people who have never been in this store. If you are one them, treat yourself to a surprise and make your way up the tiny wooden staircase by the back door to the Gumboot Café. You will find yourself in a magical world of crystal and gems in a range of prices. There is a nice selection of reasonably priced beautiful silver jewelry. Open Monday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
GUMBOOT CAFE
Everyone loves the Gumboot and everyone would love a gift certificate from there. The Gumboot logo T-shirts come in great colours and make a nice gift too.
BETH HAWTHORN POTTERY
Beth has moved her studio down into the lower Creek and continues to make beautiful, functional, minimalist tableware and vases. You can see her work at bethhawthorn.com and then call her at 778-893-8304 to arrange a visit. She will be having an open house Dec. 8, 4 to 7 p.m. and Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. 1117 Roberts Creek Road.
