There are many paintings on my walls that spark joy for me every day, and two of came from the talented Andrea Pratt. One is a crow singing atop a transistor radio, the other a pair of crows, one albino. I am seeing a theme here. Currently at the Gumboot Café, through June 30, is an exhibition of small original paintings by Andrea. Entitled “SPIRAL NOTEBOOK,” it’s a show you can enjoy there, and purchase pieces at reasonable prices to have on your own wall! Spark yourself some joy! Café hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day

Saturday, June 18, Project Future Presents Post Plague Party as Coastal heavyweights Bridge / Jomega / The Funkdealer / Live visuals by Mieke Jay, team up for an evening of hiphop, dancehall, grime, dubstep, bassline, garage, house and originals with bass enhancements to shake you loose. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Members $10, guests $15.
Thursday night is Jazz Night! Dinner show this week features “Open Sesame” (Karen Graves and friends) June 23.
Next week we have a special treat coming. Vancouver folk band The Paperboys, grace the #219 Friday, June 24, with a blend Celtic folk, bluegrass, Mexican, Eastern European, African, zydeco, soul and country influences. Saturday, June 25, local singer/producer/songwriter Susana Williams will bring her Latin Roots to perform live for the Creek.

On Friday, the evening of the 17, at 5:45 p.m., One Straw Society hosts their AGM at the One Tiny Farm, followed by a community potluck. Then on Sunday, June 19, Andrea Potter of Rooted Nutrition leads a workshop at the Tiny Farm on how to put up the harvest by making tangy, crunchy pickled vegetables, all without the fuss of canning. Pickling Without Canning will show how fermented foods such as naturally brined pickles, sauerkraut, kimchi and many more are powerhouse foods for digestive and immune health.
