Gearing up for the Terry Fox Run on Sept. 15

Although the event is intended to reflect Terry’s amazing Marathon or Hope of 1980, folks are welcome to walk, wheel or ride the distance of their choice in the spirit of determination to honour the courage of Terry Fox.

Who knew that a young guy with an artificial leg would be still considered a hero and inspire participants in the annual Terry Fox Run for 44 years? Terry’s family continues to work with the foundation in their efforts to raise awareness and funds for research and events that are dedicated to overcoming cancer.

This year #NoMatterWhat is the theme of the annual Terry Fox Run on Sept. 15. It is being held locally starting from the Gibsons and Area Recreation Centre parking lot with registration from 8 to 9:30 a.m. with a route of one, three, five or 10 km.

Although the event is intended to reflect Terry’s amazing Marathon or Hope of 1980, folks are welcome to walk, wheel or ride the distance of their choice in the spirit of determination to honour the courage of Terry Fox.

Each year, I am delighted to hear from participants the stories of how Terry Fox has meaning in their lives.  Often there is someone in their lives who is affected by cancer and the Terry Fox Run gives people a way to support them.

Our small team of volunteers look forward to welcoming those who show up on run day!
