Madeira Park gardens are featured in this weekend's Art in the Gardens Tour Saturday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Seven artists and crafts-people, six glorious gardens, plus snacks and open studios await you in a day planned to please the garden-curious and art appreciator. This specialized, self-guided tour is a fundraiser presented for the Botanical Garden Society and co-sponsored by the Pender Harbour Garden Club.
Tickets are $15 for members, $20 for non-members, available at Pam's Plants, B&K Garden & Landscape Supply, Casey's Country Gardens, Gibsons Florist, Halfmoon Bay Nursery, Quality Farm & Garden, Sechelt Visitors' Centre, Sunshine Coast Nursery and Willow Farm Nursery. The ticket brochure includes a map and lists other local attractions including restaurants.
This year's garden tour includes gardens that defy the deer, produce oodles of vegetables and have inspiring designs, colours and textures, giving each a unique ambience. Expect to find dozens of ideas you could adapt for your own garden. Whether you need sunscreen and a straw hat or wellies and a brolly, be sure to bring a camera and notebook.
The artwork includes Will Cummer's driftwood furniture, Flying Anvil Ironwork, Kim Freemantle's garden-themed pottery, June Malaka's watercolour paintings and stained glass work, Rick Harmer's concrete garden art, Jan Poynter's acrylic paintings, Allen Poynter's carved decoy ducks, Janet Tyers' greeting cards and Ken Walters' murals. Most of the artists will have work for sale at the gardens.
The Art in the Gardens Tour will be a treat for garden lovers, plant lovers and art lovers. Bring a carload of friends and make a day of it. Enjoy a cup of tea and a sweet at the Music School in Madeira Park courtesy of the Pender Harbour Garden Club, and view their crafts display.
