The Bursary Society of The Canadian Federation of University Women, Sunshine Coast (CFUW-SC) is hosting a luncheon supporting International Women’s Day on March 8 at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club as a fundraiser for its bursary program.
The event speaker is Ms. Shushma Datt, an influential figure in Canadian broadcasting who has made significant contributions to the South Asian community and broader society. Using various media platforms, she has addressed social issues, promoted South Asian arts and culture and supported community fundraising. Her community service has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Order of British Columbia, the Jack Webster Foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2024 is #InspireInclusion. The goal is a gender equal world in which differences are valued. Since 1911, International Women’s Day is celebrated each year on March 8. Groups come together to raise awareness of women’s achievements and help forge equality. The International Women’s Day luncheon with Shushma Datt as guest speaker will raise funds for the CFUW-SC 2024 bursaries, which will be opening for applications on March 1 and will remain open through to April 15. Coastal women older than 21 considering going back to school can find information on the CFUW-SC bursary website cfuwscbursarysociety.org.
CFUW-SC bursaries make a positive impact on the lives of local women with financial need.
Tickets for the Special Luncheon event are $60 and are available at Upstairs/Downstairs in the Trail Bay Mall, Sechelt.
