Area E is bopping this time of year with things to do in this little part of the Sunshine Coast.
Sunday Cider has added a new kitchen to their cidery that rotates guest chefs monthly. I checked out Anam Kitchen, which is open each weekend in October and it was incredible. What a treat to have gourmet Indian cuisine here in our backyard using produce from another Area E staple, Grounded Acres Farm. Handmade naan bread, paneer, smoked tandoori chicken and something called a thoran salad which was unreal. Sunday also has some winter markets coming up, so stay tuned.
After Sunday Cider, we headed to Quality Garden & Pet for their 23rd annual Fall Fair amongst the greenhouses. I have never seen bigger beets, onions and zucchini in my life! Some people won prizes for wacky veg, and some for the Hospital Auxiliary’s big raffle. A couple of my fav finds from Area E producers were Lunar Sun Creations who had incredible candle holders and jewellery, the surprising and delicious freeze dried candy from Sub Zero Sweets and RR7’s Farm who brought gorgeous brooms they grew from broomcorn, twined and plaited beautifully.
The Elphinstone Community Association has started up their monthly meetings again after a big hiatus. They always have the best guest speakers and this one did not disappoint as they brought in the Sunshine Coast Regional District’s FireSmart coordinator, David McIlwraith, to talk about ways we can protect our homes from wildfires. Also discussed were AirBnBs in Area E, and a letter written to address the planned logging of cut block TA0519 on Mount Elphinstone South. This is really interesting stuff that affects you in your own neighbourhood, so come join the next meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at Frank West Hall.
More than a dozen amazing artists from Area E are participating in this year’s Sunshine Coast Art Crawl which shows just how much talent we have here. Check out their map to see how many you can walk or bike to!
I would love to hear feedback, take suggestions on topics in our neighbourhood, and hear from all 3,883 residents of Elphinstone. Email me at [email protected].
