Creating shoe boxes and serving others

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

How exciting to be at the start of the 2014 fall shoe box season!

The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the good news of Jesus Christ.

“Thank you to all to all who packed a box last year because we shipped 942 filled boxes and I think we can increase that to 1,300,” said local coordinator Martha Schroth. “The reason I believe that we can do this is in 2008 we shipped 1,290 from here, so if you pass the word around to the people you know, together we will reach this goal. This is a simple way to make a huge difference in the life of a child who receives it.”

For many of the children who receive these gifts, this shoe box will be the first gift they have ever received, she added.

Pick up an empty box (or use a shoebox sized Rubbermaid container) at local churches who are participating, Calvary Baptist Church, CLA, Bethel Baptist, Crossroads or GBS in Gibsons or Sechelt, IGA in Gibsons and using the guide in the brochure in the box, decide which age child you would like to purchase gifts for.  Each shoebox gift is filled with hygiene items, school supplies, toys and a picture or letter from you. You can drop off your filled box at any of the above places. The boxes are given to boys and girls of all ages, religions and cultures.

The local boxes will be collected from Nov. 10 to 16 to allow time to  ship them.
