With COVID-19 restrictions in place, the annual Gibsons Community Christmas Dinner will be served up “to go” this year.
On Dec. 20, between 3 and 6 p.m., community volunteers will be at the Gibsons Legion Hall, dishing up and packaging individual dinners with all the trimmings, prepared by Elphinstone Secondary School’s Culinary Arts students.
Expect a certain special visitor to hand out gifts to the youngsters, too.
The meal is free to all.
If you plan to attend, please text or call 604-865-2011 to let the organizers know how many meals you will be picking up, and the first name, age and gender of children who will be receiving a gift from Santa.
Donations of new, unwrapped toys are welcome and may be dropped off at the Salvation Army Sunshine Coast Ministries office at Unit 5, 682 Gibsons Way.
The office is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This event grows each year, with more community groups participating.
This year, volunteers and contributions from the Rotary Club of Gibsons, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Calvary Baptist Church, St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 109 Gibsons, and the Salvation Army Sunshine Coast Ministries came together to ensure that all who wish to may enjoy a traditional “home-cooked” dinner.
