Starting this year, community grant applicants to the Sunshine Coast Foundation will be able to seek up to $10,000, an increase from the $7,500 maximum awarded in prior years.
“We recognize that inflation and other costs have eroded the purchasing power of the Foundation’s grants over the past several years,” said foundation board chair, Manjit Kang. “This change also acknowledges that fewer grants in larger amounts are likely to have a greater positive impact than many smaller grants.”
The Sunshine Coast Foundation has provided financial support to local charities since 2005 and awarded more than $2 million in grants in support of a wide variety of initiatives. In addition to increasing the maximum grant award, the foundation has made this year’s application process simpler and is inviting applications to support operating costs as well as program and project costs.
“The movement in Canadian philanthropy is toward making the entire granting process more user-friendly and beneficial from the grant recipient’s perspective,” said Kang. “The Sunshine Coast Foundation is proud to be a leader in embracing these trends.”
Registered charities are invited to complete a letter of intent by 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28. Instructions can be found by visiting the Foundation’s web site at sunshinecoastfoundation.org or by contacting Lisa Furfaro at [email protected].
