Times are difficult for many people in our communities – grocery and rent prices are rising; it’s hard to make ends meet; many are turning to local food banks to help fill the gap. On April 1, the four Coastal food banks (St. Bart’s Food Bank, Salvation Army, Pender Harbour Food Bank Society and the Sechelt Sunshine Coast Food Bank) commenced the spring Coastwide Food Bank Drive to help those facing food insecurity in our communities. Our community organizations and many individuals have responded. The St. Bart’s Food Bank is exceedingly grateful!
On April 1, the St. Bart’s Food Bank volunteers received $4,600 in donations from patrons who visited our table at the Sunnycrest Mall. On April 18, the Hopkins Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary donated $1,000; on April 20, the Rotary Club of Gibsons also donated $1,000 at the St. Bart’s FUNdraiser at the 101 Brewhouse, when more than 100 people enjoyed an evening of fun and music as further funds were raised through 50:50 draws and a silent auction.
The ongoing generosity of individuals and organizations in our community is what enables all four coastal Food Banks to help those in need throughout the year. You can donate directly to St. Bart’s at [email protected].
