The Sunshine Coast’s first Roper Romp took place last week, part of a growing trend since 2013 in cities across the U.S. and Canada. The progressive tour of regional drinking establishments is named in honour of Helen Roper, the vivacious landlady played by Audra Lindley on the sitcom Three’s Company that aired on the ABC network from 1977 to 1984.

Forty-three attendees took part by dressing as iconic Three’s Company characters: 40 Helens, two Stanleys and one Jack were in attendance.

“We started at Banditry at 3, then moved to the 101 and then the Blackfish,” reported Katie Swaney, who organized the event with her mother Coralie Swaney. “We had activities throughout, games and prizes, and everyone had a blast. We greeted one another with ‘Hi Helen!’ and everyone was welcome to this free public event which was posted on Facebook.”

The group has already committed to another Roper Romp in 2025, with intentions to use it as a fundraising opportunity for a local charity.
