Original story:
The annual free Community Christmas Dinner, a popular Coastal family tradition, is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Gibsons Legion and Sechelt Seniors Centre. Each of the two locations will offer dining in-house with seatings at 4:30, 5 and 5:30 p.m. Once again, take-out dinners will be available, and delivery for shut-ins and those who are self-isolating. Reservations are required for the traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings, and must be received (phone or text 604-865-2011) before Dec. 15. Santa’s elves will be on hand to greet the children attending, and the big guy himself is scheduled to visit in person. It promises to be a fun afternoon for all. The dinner is free, presented by the Sunshine Coast churches, service clubs and community groups working together.
Organizers emphasize this is a community dinner – an opportunity for us all to share in a meal even if, for some of us, we must still dine apart from one another. In the spirit of giving, there is no charge to anyone, so that all may enjoy.
Planning to attend or wishing to volunteer for this event? Please text or call 604-865-2011 before Dec. 15 and let them know how many meals are requested for your household and whether you will dine in or request take out. If there are children in your party, please indicate how many and their ages (Santa needs to know this stuff). Please provide your name and contact number and preferred time and location you will attend.
This event grows each year, providing a warm feeling of community around the holiday season. Won’t you join us?
