Since its inception, the University Women's Club on the Coast has worked to raise funds in order to award bursaries to mature women returning to post-secondary studies.
Money comes mostly from among the membership or from their small investments as well as donations and bequests from generous donors. Since 1990 the Canadian Federation of University Women (Sunshine Coast) has given $83,000 in gifts to deserving women so they can attend accredited institutions and prepare for work that will improve the lives of their families.
Occasionally the club appeals to the public for contributions in return for some entertainment or benefit. This year the club is inviting a very popular event back for a second time: a fashion show with a twist - I Can't Believe She Wore That: 100 years of Bad Taste and Fashion Faux Pas.
This presentation is by Ivan Sayers & Co. Prod-uctions. Sayers is an internationally known educator who has developed a small family clothing collection into one of the best privately-owned collections in the country. He worked for the Vancouver Museum for 20 years and is now a freelance fashion historian. His last show here was a sell-out.
The fundraiser is Sat-urday, March 27, at the Seniors' Centre in Sechelt from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served. All proceeds go to bursaries to be given this spring. Club members volunteer their time to present this fun entertainment. Tickets are $25, available at MonkeyChips in Sechelt and at Hallmark Cards in Sunnycrest Mall.
