With 2025 bringing political uncertainty — especially with Trump eyeing influence beyond the U.S. — Francophonie Month is more important than ever. French has shaped B.C. for centuries and embracing it isn’t just about language — it reinforces Canada’s unique identity and strengthens the cultural bonds that set it apart. By engaging with French, people can connect with Canada’s roots and promote inclusivity, fostering a more united and resilient society in the face of global challenges.

On the Sunshine Coast, according to the last census, 2,355 people spoke both French and English with 515 having French as their mother tongue.

Here are some of the events for those who can speak (from beginner to advanced) French or who are keen to connect with the French community to join us to celebrate our national language this month!
