Aboriginal Day celebration here on the Sunshine Coast is fast approaching — and there are lots of fun things for the community to come out and enjoy.
Our Aboriginal Day celebration will be on Sunday, June 22 at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park in Sechelt.
Sponsored by the Sechelt Nation, Aboriginal & Eco Tours, Salish Soils and Talaysay Tours, there will be complementary kayaking and canoeing from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a barbecue with drumming, singing and dancing from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m.
Last year for Aboriginal Day, 150 of us travelled to Tsunay (Deserted Bay) by the Princess Malibu. We had a picnic, and people swam in the river where their parents and grandparents were born. Joel Paul proposed to his girlfriend Elizabeth. It was a fun day.
This year we are going to try a few new things.
