A small group gathered at the Roberts Creek Post Office on Sunday, July 28 to dedicate a bench in remembrance of Bruce Fletcher.
Fletcher was born in 1951 in Zimbabwe and came to Canada in the early 1970s. He worked for the CBC for many years as a lighting technician on such shows as The Beachcombers, The Olympics, and numerous other productions.
The reason many people in Roberts Creek knew Bruce is because he was the Rural and Suburban Mail Carrier (RSMC) for lower Roberts Creek from February 2008 to March 2017.
Fletcher always loved his job as an RSMC. He enjoyed conversations with the customers and always had time for the friendly dogs on his route. After he retired, he continued to visit the post office and keep in touch with everyone he had worked with.
It is with great sadness that we share, with all in Roberts Creek, the death of Bruce Fletcher. He died on May 7. His family and friends all miss him and his wealth of knowledge of facts and trivia, his love of music, his dry sense of humour, his wit, honesty, integrity and dedication.
Bruce’s bench can be found on the south side of the Roberts Creek Post Office.
