Art lovers are invited to the 50 Artists for SCCSS “Canapés, Cocktails & Charity Art Auction” on Nov. 16, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at High Beam Dreams in Gibsons. Organized by 50 Women for SCCSS co-chairs Nicole Arnett and Sue Anne Linde, in collaboration with High Beam Dreams and local artists, the event supports the 50 Women for SCCSS fundraising campaign to close the final funding gap for Sunshine Coast Community Services’ Building Together project, bringing affordable housing and essential community services to the Coast.
“At High Beam Dreams, we’re excited to bring the community together in support of affordable housing,” said High Beam Dreams director Nidhi Kamboj. “This auction is a chance to enjoy an evening of art and connection. We invite everyone to join us for a meaningful night that will make a lasting difference.”
The evening will feature 50 artworks donated by local artists, including Marleen Vermeulen, Teryl Mullock, Sandy Kay, Charly Mithrush, Marlene Lowden, and Cindy Riach. Guests can enjoy gourmet canapés, a grazing table prepared by Chef Lovena, a welcome glass of bubbly, and curated wine and cocktails. Former CBC host Vicki Gabereau will emcee and Ed Hill will lead the live auction of high-value pieces.
“As an auctioneer, I’ve seen firsthand how a cause can spark generosity,” said Hill. “Providing secure, affordable housing for women and children in need is essential, and I look forward to seeing enthusiastic bidding at the event.”
“Fifty years ago, a small group of women established the Coast’s first transition house,” said Linde. “Since then, women have contributed their talent and energy, creating programs and raising funds to support them. It’s fitting that 50 Women for SCCS is helping finalize funding for a new community hub beneath affordable housing for women—and that fifty artists, many of them women, have embraced this cause by donating to our art auction. Never underestimate the power of women to get things done.”
All money raised from the sale of the art will go to the fund for SCCSS’s Building Together project, a $34 million development that will provide 35 units of affordable housing for women and children at risk of violence and homelessness. The new facility will also house essential community services, including the Food Bank and crisis response programs, serving thousands each year.
There are 125 tickets available, $150 each, available through highbeamdreams.com.
