ElderCollege offers 15 courses on Zoom for spring session

Sunshine Coast ElderCollege is continuing its online course offerings this spring.

Residents ages 55 and up are invited to watch a recorded presentation previewing its courses on YouTube or its webpage on Dec. 11. Registration opens at noon on Dec. 11.

Because of COVID-19, ElderCollege went forward with a reduced program on Zoom in the fall. It was well received and now organizers are going full steam ahead for spring, offering 15 courses on Zoom taught by volunteer experts.

Classes on offer are: Hot Topics, Pat Hausberg and Selma Swaab; Being Prepared for the Unexpected: Developing an Advance Care Plan, Joan Hibbard and Sandie Scott with guest speakers; A History of Gardening, Christine Pawley and Rosemary Bates Terry; Design Your Own Garden, Ayoku Inoue; Guided Autobiography, Carley Belzberg; History of Rome: Monarchy and Republic, Keith Maxwell; Elder Care in the Community, April Struthers and Vicki Dobbin; Astrogeomorphology, Ray Kostachuk; National Historic Sites, Michael Starr; Restorative Justice, Nancy Denham; Capture Memories with Your iPhone, Jack Pope; Law for Seniors, Carmen Sombrowski, Wayne Rowe and Lois Potter; The Mysterious Power of Music, Kathryn Nicholson; Festival of the Written Arts Preview – morning session, moderator Pam Horner, afternoon session moderator TBA; and Spring Birding on the Sunshine Coast (go ahead subject to COVID restrictions in May), Tony Greenfield, John Hodges and Rand Rudland.

SC ElderCollege is a non-profit society funded solely by course fees. They are all volunteers including the expert presenters. They do not receive grants or donations and operate on a break-even basis.

Courses are $35 each course fees have been reduced by over 20 per cent in recent years. Registration is through the ElderCollege web page via PayPal, either with a credit card or a PayPal account. You must pre-register. There are class size limits. (Registration is no longer handled by the Sunshine Coast Regional District.)
