All schools on the lower Sunshine Coast are to open, today, Feb. 6 according to a posting on School District #46's website, but school buses are not running due to questionable road conditions for large vehicles on side streets given the volume of snow yet to be cleared.
That posting notes that families may choose whether to send their child to school today. "Students will not be disadvantaged for absences due to inclement weather conditions. If your child will be staying home from an OPEN school, please notify the school office," it details. Another important reminder from SD46 administration is that Thursday, Feb. 6 is early dismissal day with school finishing one hour earlier than usual.
For those aged 60 plus who were contemplating use of Pender Harbour's Seniors Link bus service, its travel is suspended today and expected to resume on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
There are also Travel Alerts posted for two Sunshine Coast Transit routes, the #1 bus (Sechelt-Gibsons/Langdale Ferry) and the #3 (Sechelt Arena). Those looking to travel on those routes are advised to check for updated information.
Weatherhood is forecasting dry but continuing cold weather conditions for the coming six days.
Environment Canada's outlook for today calls for a mix of sun and cloud but winds up to 15 km/h. That translates to a wind chill that makes the minus 1 temperatures expected this morning feel like minus 5.
