To our SCRD directors:

My name is Sandi and I have a grandson with many disabilities. Our outings each week include doctor's appointments and his job positions. Allowing him this freedom is our Handy Dart and great bus drivers. We have no other bus service in our area (Sandy Hook and Tillicum Bay) so most rely solely on this service.

Two weeks ago (July 14) we were given a notice from the SCRD informing us of a 15 hour a week cutback to our Handy Dart service.

Does the board of directors need their eyes opened? We have more people in need of this service than ever before and in a lot of cases, it's their only means of transport.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves. You've just taken away a little bit of freedom from an elderly, sick or disabled person.

Editor's note: The service reduction was approved by the SCRD board during the annual budget process and was to take place following budget approval on March 31. The delay in implementing the change was to allow BC Transit Victoria to review the proposal.
