Bears of the Sunshine Coast: We'd all like to welcome you to this meeting to discuss something of significant and current importance to us and to our future.

No doubt you've all read the CBC.ca online report posted last Tuesday, July 14, mentioning that Port Coquitlam now has a new bylaw in place which, as of Aug. 4, will require residents to keep their trash safe from our eastern cousins, inside buildings or in bear-proof bins, or otherwise face fines of up to $150.

In light of our ongoing um interests and participation here on the Coast, we would like to send our opinions and recommendation on this PoCo initiative to the Sunshine Coast Regional District.

As resident bears, we have, amongst ourselves, spent considerable time this week preparing our impact statements, performing our risk assessments and evaluations and completing the projections around this issue for our future.

Our immediate survival needs are in our own paws, yet our long-term survival may be in the hands of others. Please consider this when you vote.

Honourary BOSC members, may we have a show of paws of all those in favour of making such a recommendation?
