For the first time in my life, I am writing a letter to the editor. The ridiculous proposed roadwork on Hwy. 101 in Davis Bay has so exasperated me that I cannot resist writing.
We need neither turn lanes nor ugly traffic lights. We need speed bumps and more pedestrian crossings.
Speed bumps are far more effective in slowing down traffic. Going too fast over a speed bump shakes up a car, the driver and passengers. Zipping through amber and red lights is too easy; being shaken over speed bumps is a very strong deterrent.
The speed bumps need to begin between the bridge and the curve when coming from the south, with appropriate signage before the bridge. Coming from the north they should begin at the bottom of the hill.
This would be effective and the least costly as well as visually acceptable.
I do not know where to take this suggestion and hope the appropriate people are reading their local newspapers and paying attention to the outrage of their local population. Who gains from diminishing the quality of life on the Coast?
