Since it is the traffic bound for Sechelt that is the issue, has anyone looked into the cost/possibility of double laning only in that direction?
Is Ashok Bhatti from the ministry a local resident? Does he drive our streets every day? Does it bother anyone else that the fate of the four lanes through Gibsons is being left up to a computer model?
Did the ministry factor in, when comparing traffic flow with other stats, that we have a pretty unique situation here with a very large number of cars being periodically dumped onto the grid by a ferry? When Bhatti says "Gibsons Way has a traffic accident rate twice the provincial average," (Coast Reporter, Sept. 25) what does he mean? Compared to what? Does that comparison include other communities with a similar traffic challenge? Does this include traffic statistics for Vancouver streets? How does it compare to the rate for Denman Street, for example?
Is anyone monitoring the increased use of Reed Road, meaning more motorists bypassing the businesses of Gibsons Way? If everyone was largely happy with the way things were, even with our accident rate, why would it have to be changed? Aren't there better places and better projects the ministry can spend our money on? Lots of questions - anyone have answers?
