Like Sarah Vatnsdal (Coast Reporter letters, March 16), I too saw my Hydro bill suddenly increase when my smart meter was installed.
I'm a very careful user of electricity, and normally pay Hydro $120 to $150 for two months. Yet my first two-month bill after the meter was installed was for $248 - double what I normally pay.
I cut back on heating even more, but the next two-month bill still came in at $200. Something is clearly wrong with Hydro's billing, and the problem corresponds exactly with the installation of the smart meter.
I am not against smart meters, but I am against smart meters that don't work and whose errors cost me money.
I would like the group organizing to protest against unexplained jumps in smart meter billing to identify itself, preferably with a website, so those of us affected can organize to approach Hydro collectively and in a more formal manner.
