Some of the people residing within a two block area of Laurel Avenue are not in favour of completing an approximately 50-metre strip on this road. This incomplete portion is not a cul-de-sac. It is clearly defined as a municipal road and has been dedicated as such.

I have been on the official community plan committee for over a year and have familiarized myself with our vision and neighbourhood plans along with the many policies that are in place.

Sechelt's vision is for a caring, healthy, inclusive, safe and welcoming community. The need to share the burden of traffic and to be inclusive for everyone is essential in order to live an active, healthy lifestyle.

Emergency vehicles need efficient access. An efficient transportation system serves as a lifeline for people, connecting us within our neighbourhood and beyond.

The goal of our Vision Plan is to have a long-term vision, so let our mission not waiver in that it is a vision that brings a vibrant, diverse and highly livable community.

The Laurel Avenue residents' concern about safety for children, pets and wildlife is most definitely a concern for all of us on all our roads. We're in this together, so let's share our roads and create sensible access.

Perhaps the only way to solve these kinds of issues in the future is to have our infrastructure in place first before any development is done. Only then would we be free from dealing with these time-consuming, awkward consequences.
