On behalf of the Canadian Centre for Missing Children, the Gibsons Lions Club will be providing child ID kits and safety awareness program for the children in our community.

The Centre was instrumental in bringing about Canada's DNA legislation and the AMBER Alert system that has now been adopted in all provinces.

There are always tragic stories of child abduction in the news. It is unfortunate we have to teach our children about personal safety. It isn't good enough any more to simply teach them to not talk to strangers, but we must teach them how to deal with a number of situations and how to respond to them. These kits will make a significant difference in preventing a tragedy from occurring here.

It is our hope that these kits will never have to be used, but the information contained is invaluable and is a wonderful tool to teach and aid parents on how to approach the subject with their children; in the hopes that they may have a fighting chance should they find themselves in a dangerous situation in which they need to respond.

Join us Saturday, Oct. 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Sunnycrest Mall
