For 17 days Canadians engaged in a massive outpouring of national pride as athletes representing our country delivered a stunning performance that saw Canada with the most medals it has ever won in history.
I was born in the Ukraine. Canada has been my home for 15 years. I am proud to see the Ukrainian flag flying high among another flags of the world. Ukrainian Canadians can take particular pride in the performance of Lucas Makowsky, who with teammates bested the United States in the men's speed skating team pursuit final to win gold. I take pride in achievements of all Canadian athletes. Thanks to them we were able to take the first place with 14 gold medals, which set a new record for any nation at a Winter Games.
I am very proud to be Canadian! I am proud to live here, and most of all, I am proud of our athletes. They created a spirit of good will in Canada that will carry on to the future. It also created indelible memories that will last forever.
