Editor:

We have just been advised by the secretary of the Langdale West Howe Sound Working Group (LAWG) that B.C. Ferries has granted an extension until further notice for closure of the long-used small boat and foot passenger wharf at Langdale ferry terminal.

Important discussions are still underway between B.C. Ferries and the Sunshine Coast Regional District for a replacement float. The extension of the deadline represents a consensus among all the parties that they have more in common than what divides them. More importantly, this consensus exemplifies enthusiastic citizen participation in public process.

The LAWG activists delivered 1,000 signatures submitted to B.C. Ferries pleading for continuing boat access. The efforts of these volunteer activists, like activists through the ages, have been unheralded and unthanked. But sincere efforts by well-intentioned people will deliver constructive results for everyone concerned.

We applaud Joe Wright, LAWG's president, Stu Watson, LAWG's secretary, and LAWG's many other volunteer citizens who continue to work for the common good.
