Re: Politics today (Coast Reporter letters, May 22).

Thank you, Taysha, for your well-thought letter.

All our generations don't really communicate well, and yes, you are correct - adults tend to hand problems over to the next generation pretending to take care of it. Citizens tend to pass responsibility to politicians thinking they are smart and someone has to do it. No one is really concerned about our environment as long as life is good and profits go up constantly.

Our system is not working correctly so we have those cover-ups emphasizing that we have everything under control - but we don't.

We are depending on nature and market mechanisms at the same time. This needs to be well co-ordinated from now on to benefit us in the long-term.

The economic crisis today may be considered the ultimate chance to turn things around, but talking to each other without prejudice, brainstorming, being creative and setting goals, investing in solutions and industries that are pro-environment would definitely create new long-term jobs.

We have to delete our "harvest attitude" when it comes to natural resources and the environment, and we should start to care more for everyone and everything around us.

In essence, we need a socially responsible society, open to everyone and flexible, to start co-ordinated solutions, working together and respecting each other.

Would there be a way for our local radio/TV station(s) to have a weekly platform moderated by each generation, so we can learn about problems, thoughts and music? At the same time this weekly feature could bring a bit more Sunshine Coast life on the air, a new voice with new input, new ideas and a new start to communicate and live together.
