Reflection in well water

Editor:

Unacceptable: Successive mayors and councils should be held accountable for their mishandling of the water. The Sunshine Coast political leaders all point to climate change for our water woes. Instead of buying meters, they should have been lobbying the NDP government and SIB to grant the permits for the siphoning yesterday. Then deal with the enhancements to the reservoir for the future.

A public meeting with only environmentalists and the SIB cowed the council to vote to do nothing is unacceptable. It should be unlawful: These are people’s lives. We all love salmon and owls but what about people? It’s ludicrous! What are they doing with our tax dollars other than buying meters to control our consumption when there’s plenty of water flowing into the ocean much of the year?

Where’s the discussion? What are they hiding? Where are the survey results? Do they want to stop people from coming, then stop the new developments and B&Bs, at least until they’ve figured it out.

It’s arrogant of some to think they can control the weather. We endured record rain and snow this year, what can we expect with a dryer year? You have to deal with the issue in front of you. It’s not hard to see the climate is heating up so why didn’t they deal with the water shortages before it came to this state?
