Editor:

With our escalating food prices and our weak dollar providing less purchasing power for imported produce, retaining our remaining agricultural land becomes more important than ever.

Yet, we still have realtors advertising their ALR (Agricultural Land Reserve) listings with the possibility of removal from the ALR further encouraging developers and speculators.

Destroying more farmland, increasing density with housing developments largely aimed at the Lower Mainland market does little to enhance our community.

Officials need to take a hard stance on these removal applications to discourage speculators looking for profits at the expense of our local food security.
