Letters: Stop orca tailgating in Howe Sound

'The rules about harassing these endangered whales are straightforward and common sense: stay out of their way, keep at least two football fields away at all times, and don’t harass them.'

An orca family was being followed too closely by commercial boats in Howe Sound off New Brighton Harbour this weekend.

On Sunday afternoon, the two commercial boats boxed in the orcas by playing leap-frog between them. Shame on them, they know better. The rules about harassing these endangered whales are straightforward and common sense: stay out of their way, keep at least two football fields away at all times, and don’t harass them.  It is illegal to swim, dive or interact with marine mammals, and the fines can be hefty.
