Re. Wealth of seniors’ contributions

The writer points out to our MP that Baby Boomers make up 40 per cent of the volunteers in our country and then makes a case that retired people should get the $250 cheque from the government, citing respect for elders as the reason this should be done. What’s not mentioned: the percentage of poor amongst seniors is smaller than any other age group in the country, seniors are given more perks than anyone else, and many seniors are able to volunteer as they are well off and no longer need to work. Government assistance should be reserved for those who need it, not given purely based on age. Especially at this time of year, I encourage my peers to use their spare time to think about what they can give to others, not the other way around. Entitlement is not a good look for anyone.
