Letters: Sechelt, stay out of politics, out of Sue Big Oil

Last week’s lead article “District of Sechelt joins Sue Big Oil” where Sechelt commits $1 per resident toward the Sue Big Oil campaign is out of line. Has anyone thought how suing the oil companies will affect us? To stay in business you must make a profit. If expenses go up, the company simply charges more for its product. Suing the oil companies will simply raise the cost of a litre of gas at the pumps. So who ultimately pays? Us of course.

If anyone is concerned about the climate, they should simply quit buying gas and heating oil. If everyone quits buying, the oil companies will go out of business and the so-called problem is solved (sarcasm, for those who might have missed it).

Meanwhile, since I do not support suing Big Oil, do not donate my $1 to them. I would rather have it available to be used on the things that the District of Sechelt should be using it for. That would include sufficient water, police, fire, infrastructure etc., the things the district should be doing, not getting into politics.
