Sechelt farmers market is in a great location. Walkability and accessibility to shops, transport, and events shows thoughtful urban planning, in the downtown area of Sechelt.

My family and I have called the Sunshine Coast home for many years. Summer and fall are when friends and family stay with us. The Coast has so much to offer in landscape, seashore and culture, from visual, dramatic arts to music and literature.

The Sechelt Farmers’ and Artisans market is a must-see that has become a tradition for our visitors. We taste and smell the bounty of our Coast’s farms under the shade of old trees, near the civic heart –– library, town hall, pool, visitor centre; a short walk to downtown shops and restaurants, and the Trail Bay Mall. A lovely, natural flow to the seawalk, to Rockwood centre, Seaside Centre and Hackett Park.

The rental development listed in the Coast Reporter article is also a short walk from this hub of “downtown” businesses and a flourishing Saturday market. As to the (temporary) construction access to build this development during the months of the market; construction vehicles have access from Sunday through Friday. Only Saturdays –– when tourist traffic is flowing –– would the street be blocked. An added benefit: reduced risk of accidents between tourist traffic and construction vehicles in a bustling downtown.

Walkability and accessibility to shops, transport, and events shows thoughtful, eco-friendly urban planning. The farmers market belongs on this corner of Cowrie Street on summer-fall Saturdays.
