Letters: Saturday honking in Davis Bay is irksome to neighbours

'This continuous noisy action denies the freedom of others for peaceful enjoyment of their homes and the seawall. I ask the demonstrators to redirect their energy to one of the many local political or social organizations that work to improve the rights and freedoms of folks in our community and to stop annoying your neighbours.'

Saturday protests in Davis Bay had a groundswell of support in February during the trucker convoy to Ottawa and occupation (which is when this photo is from). The weekly protests have since been reduced to small – but loyal – group of protesters.

Editor:

I feel grateful to live adjoining ts’ukw’um in Davis Bay. The seawall here is a place of celebration of nature and often also for community.

One group is monopolizing the seawall on Saturdays for the past four months. In the beginning, their signs supported the truckers' occupation of Ottawa denouncing a perceived oppression and tyranny by the Canadian government while at the same time waving the flag of their supposed oppressors. While they continue to enjoy their right to freedom of expression, they encourage motorists to honk their horns.

This continuous noisy action denies the freedom of others for peaceful enjoyment of their homes and the seawall. I ask the demonstrators to redirect their energy to one of the many local political or social organizations that work to improve the rights and freedoms of folks in our community and to stop annoying your neighbours.
