Years ago, we protested against the closing of Shorncliffe and turning it over to a private enterprise.
To no avail. Shorncliffe was closed and everyone transferred to a private enterprise that will deal with people as they will, for a profit. The goverments did not listen to the people.
And what about Shorncliffe? It sits fenced off and boarded up while the public outcry is that of lack of housing and homelessness. I have visited Shorncliffe on a number of occasions.
There are rooms with bathrooms. There are individual suites with a kitchen, bedroom and living room.
There is a lovely terrace on the second floor. There is a full commercial kitchen equipped to service all the people living there. There is a large central room where people received entertainment and did activities. So again, I am left to ask: does our government ever listen to the people?
We have a housing crisis! We have a homelessness crisis! Listen, municipal, provincial and federal goverment!
Open up Shorncliffe. Let the people have a home!
