Last fall when I had to have a hip replacement I was advised by my surgeon that I would need to acquire a few pieces of medical equipment before the surgery. I had started to search local stores and online and was about to order some very costly items when a friend told me about the Sechelt Hospital Loan Cupboard.

This volunteer-run organization provides a wide array of equipment from canes and walkers to bedrails and commodes, all free of charge, for a period of up to two months to anyone who needs it. I can’t say how much I appreciated being able to use this service and how well organized it is. One phone call later, I picked up my equipment the following day at the hospital. For people dealing with medical issues, when stress levels are already high, being able to seamlessly get the equipment they need is a godsend. Thank you so much to all the volunteers who give their time to offer this service to our community! It’s one of the many things that make this a wonderful place to live!
