A huge shout out to Chris Hergesheimer and his walk to create awareness of the lack of transit from Halfmoon Bay to Earls Cove! His hope is to keep the conversation going. Good on him!
My bus story: In 2001, I was able to purchase property 10 km north of Halfmoon Bay after confirming there would be bus service available in my area as I don’t drive. Unfortunately, the service ended a few years later after going out of business.
Because of losing my only reliable source of transportation, I contacted the Pender Harbour Electoral District plus Sunshine Coast MLA’s office to see what alternative plans there could be moving forward. No action was taken.
A BC Transit proposal was made public quite a few years ago for future transportation expansion on the Sunshine Coast to include a shuttle service from Halfmoon Bay to Earls Cove. To date the service has not been implemented.
Thankfully there is a private bus company presently providing bus service where the former company left off. Although the service is less regular and more expensive, people like myself truly appreciate a service we can depend on.
I’m an older independent person who is lucky to have family, neighbours and friends I can rely on when needed.
I often wonder what others, are doing in the same situation (or worse!) as me, and how they are able to get around, run errands, visit friends, attend special events, doctor’s appointments etc.
How concerned is our government with its senior citizens living in isolation? What about the environment and the impact of air quality with increased traffic?
Surely having a more expanded transit system on this beautiful Sunshine Coast would provide positive results in these important areas of concern?
