Letters: In the the heat pump debate, we need to defend silence

“Heat pumps are as noisy as a dishwasher, fridge or vacuum cleaner” it states on an article answering the question ‘are heat pumps noisy?’

My experience is they are not only noisy inside but outside which means you are adding another noise to an already noisy neighbourhood.  Please, no more noise!

I remember kayaking in Secret Cove years ago and we could hear the hum of a heat pump throughout the whole area. Why would anyone trade the beauty of silence for yet one more incessant hum not to mention the clunks and groans the article talks about.  Stress levels would decrease if noisy appliances got quieter not adding more of them to our neighbourhoods.

How about a Universal Silence Program?
