Editor:
We are grateful to the District of Sechelt Council for renewing the Coast Hospice lease at Kirkland House. This central location has been our base of operations since February 2011.
Nestled among the trees above Chapman Creek, “Hospice House” is easily accessible for the steadily growing number of Coast residents who benefit from entirely free services such as our palliative day program for people and their caregivers facing a life-limiting illness. Under the roof of Hospice House, we host numerous other palliative and grief programs, one-on-one support, learning events and resources (such as our Green Sleeve advanced care planning kit).
Hospice House is also the hub for training and support for our 65+ active volunteers who provide a compassionate presence wherever it is needed–at home, in the hospice suites funded by Vancouver Coastal Health, in hospital, or in a long-term care setting. Through these programs and services, along with all of other community-wide individual and group support, events and activities, Hospice has directly served almost 1,500 Coast residents in the past year.
We welcome anyone who needs support with the experience of grief, or who is a caregiver, to ask about our programs. You are also welcome to stop in and learn about our community work. Our door is open and the tea is on.
