Editor:
Steve Carter sent you a letter last week to declare “an embarrassment and insult to basic common sense.”
The free Type 2 EV chargers in Lower Gibsons were installed during a time when chargers were typically free, and also not as popular as they are now; there are a few others from this era around town, too. Indeed, Mr. Carter is correct that if we were installing chargers today, it would make sense for them to be pay-for-use. However, the Town receives between $8,000 and $16,000 a year in credits under the Renewable and Low Carbon Fuel rebate, which pays for the power.
So speaking of common sense, writing a letter to the paper to incorrectly accuse the Town of “giving away our tax dollars” seems a bit premature, as would be the notion of tearing out these working, well-used chargers to replace them with newer models. We will, however, replace these chargers when it makes common sense for the taxpayers of Gibsons to do so.
