Letters: Flyers should support newspaper

Editor:

I would like to express my gratitude for keeping us informed about local news, events, and shopping opportunities through the Coast Reporter newspaper. I recognize that the sustainability of our newspaper relies heavily on the support from our local merchants.

It has come to my attention that several major chain stores have transitioned from advertising in the Coast Reporter to distributing flyers through a new startup flyer distributor that targets post office boxes. This shift raises concerns about the future viability of our beloved local news source.

I urge these chain merchants to reconsider and continue their support for The Coast Reporter, ensuring that our community retains access to this valuable news outlet. In the meantime, I have taken the initiative to indicate a “no flyer” preference on my post box. Perhaps if more individuals join in this action, it may prompt the larger stores to return their support to our community newspaper.

Sincerely,

Ken Croizier, Sechelt
