Letters: Creativity needed to solve the water crisis

'Let’s not pit the various legitimate water user needs against each other but continue as a community to hold our government responsible for viable long term solutions.'

Editor:

We all know there is an infrastructure problem with our water supply in the SCRD.

We need long term solutions that resolve the issue.

We need solutions that benefit all water users.

Our community has stepped up time and time to find these solutions while we are just told to conserve more.

Let’s not pit the various legitimate water user needs against each other but continue as a community to hold our government responsible for viable long term solutions.

This doesn’t have to be farmers vs aquatics or ice users vs business or households vs hospitals.

There are WIN WIN WIN solutions coming from our community and local businesses.

Offers of free trucking of water / storage to farms or recreation facility has been one such solution that has benefitted farmers and now can benefit ice users.

Using wells, or water from Pender or Town of Gibsons until other sources can be established is another avenue.

Building collection systems on farms or at facilities is another piece of the puzzle.

Tapping into aquifer and looking at other water sources on the Coast or creating reservoir is another idea.

There will be costs but any increase of infrastructure brings costs. The alternative isn’t sustainable.

Let all send positive creative suggestions to the SCRD so everyone can benefit.
