While stewing waiting for the next ferry due to yet another breakdown I happened to have a chat with a lovely Dutch Canadian who joined me in sharing a good rant to pass the time.
She mentioned how we are surrounded by hazards like tinder dry brush and I thought about all the trees that keep falling on the power lines. We see these things all the time but do nothing about them because frankly we don’t know who to call.
This dovetails into my thoughts about civil defense and creating resilience.
Every neighbourhood has someone who is considered knowledgeable and reliable. We should identify these people and introduce them to the preparedness and local government people in our community. So if you are out walking and see a downed tree or a bunch of soldiers behind a hedge you know who to call.
If you are reading this why not put your name forward to your community then find out why your local government won’t have a clue what to do with you.
