Letters: Canadian civil defence manual needed?

The past few weeks have been a rollercoaster ride trying to deal with the effects of Trump and his rightwing peers. But I will say that, as always, the times produce the man and people like Trudeau and Doug Ford and our own David Eby have stepped up.

But it’s not over yet and I found myself downloading the Ukrainian civilian defence manual, something that would never have occurred to me before now. When our prime minister says that there is a serious possibility of American incursion and economic disruption of our country, then we need to take it seriously. It doesn’t mean that we need to start filling bottles with gasoline but perhaps we need to realise that the bottle depots are a good resource.

The Ukrainians have a series of secure phone numbers and email addresses which have been invaluable for assisting their military with their work. We don’t have that and I think we should. A Canadian version of the civilian defense manual would be good too, although with a bit of luck we will never use it, just like I hope to never need my earthquake survival kit.

Elbows up!
