Letter: Tidewater expertise needed

'When the DMP finalizes the requirements for bodies of fresh water, I am sure Minister Cullen will have had more first-hand experience and I don’t believe the well-being of eelgrass will be a concern.'

Editor:

As a kid who was raised on tidewater, spending most of the summers swimming and fishing off docks and wharves and later scuba diving, I have first-hand knowledge of what small fish want: protection from predators!
Protection is often afforded by hiding in the shadows of reefs, kelp beds and under manmade floating structures.

I was dumbfounded to read that the dock management plan (DMP) required new docks, wharves and boathouses  to have large holes or wide gaps in the decking to allow more light to reach the depths.
Another thing that baffles me is the provincial minister who oversees the DMP’s decision making is Nathan Cullen who makes his home in Smithers, a municipality a great distance from tidewater.

When the DMP finalizes the requirements for bodies of fresh water, I am sure Minister Cullen will have had more first-hand experience and I don’t believe the well-being of eelgrass will be a concern.

I would like to offer my services as an “elder,” expecting the same renumeration as others receive.
I am in need of this monetary influx as the provincial increase in income taxes is eroding my disposable income.
