Letter: Sunshine Coast developments need to B.Y.O.W. – bring your own water

'As it is blatantly unethical to continue unbridled development while infrastructure remains so deficient, let’s attach a B.Y.O.W(ater) requirement to all building permits issued until 2035 when – according to the Site B reservoir proposal – we will have adequate water.'

Well, this is a perplexing situation! It seems the most recent consultant says a reservoir is required to alleviate our water storage deficiency as well as to comply with our Chapman system licensing requirement. Presumably this consultant was hired for their expertise – and yet their expertise and recommendations are dismissed with, “Nah, what we need is water meters.” While I do understand that water meters won’t provide any more water, they will provide funds for hiring more consultants until one gives the desired answer (known as the Seawatch Model).

Since I also lack relevant qualifications, I am throwing another idea into the maelstrom. As it is blatantly unethical to continue unbridled development while infrastructure remains so deficient, let’s attach a B.Y.O.W(ater) requirement to all building permits issued until 2035 when – according to the Site B reservoir proposal – we will have adequate water.

C’mon folks, join in; pitch your own nonsensical ideas – it’s a good distraction from sitting and watching your gardens die.
