I’m commenting on a statement attributed to me in last week’s paper resulting in Sunshine Coast Community Forest (SCCF) deciding to cancel the information-sharing meetings with Elphinstone Logging Focus (ELF).

I can categorically state that I did not make any negative personal comments against SCCF’s operations manager during a presentation I made on Aug. 6. I did criticize SCCF’s cutblock AN3A planning based on how the block is laid out.

However, in a letter I received from him afterwards he claimed that I referred to him publicly as “The Warlord of Canfor” which is so false it’s laughable.

I wasn’t even aware at the time he worked there decades ago, and people who know me will know that I don’t trade in slanderous comments and yet now I’m on the receiving end of a misplaced allegation meant to tarnish ELF’s reputation in the community. As we say, that’s not cool, and will leave it at that.

By the way, a straw poll before the walk showed that 99 percent of the people attending had no idea that this AN3A block was targeted for clearcut logging. It’s this clear that transparent public consultations at SCCF remain weak with room for improvement.
