Ten years ago, on Oct. 16, 2014, the District of Sechelt hosted various dignitaries from across Canada for the official opening ceremonies of the Sechelt Water Resource Centre.
Designed, built and funded in three years, it was the result of great collaboration between expert builders and technical consultants, a dedicated project coordinator, and supportive partners, including the (then) Sechelt Indian Government District.
Our commitment to innovation helped us get grant funding from the provincial and federal governments and a grant and loan from the Green Municipal Fund (and that loan will be fully repaid in the next few months!)
The result – a world class award winning facility with amongst the highest treatment standards in Canada and the as-built capacity to meet Sechelt’s needs for many years to come (plus it can be doubled in size when needed.)
On this day, I especially want to thank the district’s extraordinary team of professional operators –– current and past. Complex facilities like this have hiccups occasionally so my thanks also to the neighbours for their patience and their support.
Of course, I am proud of what we were able to do then. But more importantly, it highlights what municipalities are capable of doing.
